However, the business was renamed S.S. Cars Limited in 1934, after Lyons purchased the business wholly from Walmsley. In 1935, a sports saloon model (aka a sports sedan) called the SS Jaguar was released alongside the SS Jaguar 100, an open-top two-passenger sports car, making William Lyons the founder of the very first Jaguar model. How did these luxury models become the top car company that we know today?
After spinning off from British Leyland, Jaguar was acquired by Ford in 1999, remaining under Ford ownership until 2008, when Tata Motors purchased both Jaguar and Land Rover. Tata Motors then created Jaguar Land Rover as a subsidiary holding company. Despite the change in ownership, Ford still develops and supplies Jaguar models with different technologies and components.

While the answer to who owns Jaguar and Land Rover is Tata Motors, Jaguar Land Rover is headquartered in Coventry that’s located about two hours north of London. There are a number of Jaguar plants around the world with each one dedicated to only a handful of Jaguar models when it comes to who makes Jaguar.
